Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a computer-based interface to modify and/or interrogate a control system.This unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision. This includes identifying and providing solutions to a limited range of predictable problems.No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Navigate the process control interface
  • Confirm the readiness of the control interface and related components for operation
  • Use the hardware provided to operate the interface
  • Use page links to move between screens
  • Acknowledge messages and alarms
  • Access required information from screen displays
  • Record interface system malfunctions and report to supervisor
       
Element: Use interface system to operate and maintain a process within required parameters
  • Start, monitor and shut down individual items of equipment and processes using the control interface
  • Select equipment, alter status and enter settings to meet operating requirements
  • Activate sequences to initiate process operation
  • Recognise equipment giving a bad signal or bad measurements and take responsive action
       
Element: Analyse data to predict and control performance
  • Select and analyse trends to identify performance patterns
  • Identify causes of abnormal or unacceptable performance and take corrective action
  • Record information in workplace format

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
